The Dodge City Red Demons girls soccer team opens their season tonight against the Liberal Redskins.

Opening kick for the varsity game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The junior varsity game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Both games take place in Memorial Stadium in Dodge City.

Last year, the Demons started their season with a 1-0 win over Liberal on the way to a 9-3-3 overall record that included a Western Athletic Conference title followed by a Regional title.

Head coach Saul Hernandez said he wants his team to get the victory, but perfection is hardly an expectation tonight.

“I don’t expect ‘em to be playing at the highest level yet, but we’ll get there (and) hopefully hit our stride at the end of the season,” Hernandez said.

Tonight’s game is the first of two on the calendar for the team this week. They're also scheduled to host host Shawnee-Mission South Friday night.
