Macksville and St. John had good showings at the KSHSAA state track and field finals at Wichita’s Cessna Stadium with Macksville claiming a third in the boys team results and athletes from both schools bringing home some medals.
The Macksville Mustang boys trotted to a third place team finish with 36 points. Ness City claimed the overall with a total of 62 points.
Senior Marc Renfro accounted for a good percentage of the 36 points taking the top spot on the podium in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.41.
In the 300-meter hurdles Renfro finished sixth for two points with a time of 41.90, but his teammate Adam Oak picked up the slack scoring eight points with a second place finish at 40.95. Braden Lebeda, Caldwell, won the event with a time of 40.32.
In the 4x100- and 4x400-meter the two speedsters teamed up with Garrett Aves and Evan Loomis in the 100 for a second place time of 44.80. Ness City claimed 10 of their 62 points winning the event with a time of 44.43.
The 4x4 saw Loomis, Renfro, and Oak team up with Efrain Lopez for another second place finish crossing the line just over 4 tenths of a second behind Moscow with a time of 3:32.59. Moscow’s winning time was 3:32.13.
Macksville Seth Filbert, sophomore failed to make the podium in the 1600-meter finishing 13 with a time of 4:50.39 in a field of 16.
Dakota Allison, Junior, finished 11 in a field of 15 in the boys javelin throw. He had a distance of 152-07. The winning distance of 178-10 was posted by Madison, Henry Ott.
In girls action, St. John’s Teresa Wade, sophomore, claimed a second place finish in the girls shot put hitting a distance of 38-04.50 for her longest put. Chelsea Keating a senior at Frankfort High posted the longest distance at 43-02.
In Javelin Wade landed on the podium in seventh with her longest throw hitting 114-09. Macksville’s Megan Wood placed ninth with a distance of 107-05 in a field of 16. The winning distance was set by Beloit-St. John junior, Vanessa Kresin at 132-07.
On the ground, Wood bettered her javelin finish by three placing sixth in the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.93.
The winning time was posted by Hallie Kuhlman, a sophomore from Wallace County, who crossed the line at 57.85.
St. John’s youngest state qualifier freshman, Jamie Waters competed in the girls 800-meter posting a time of 2:47.80. Kuhlman again set the fast time winning the event at 2:24.28.
Lady Tiger Daniele Wendland finished fifth in her prelim of the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.34, but ended up with the ninth fastest time with only the top eight going to the finals on Saturday.
