The annual Goodman Memorial Library quarter bingo fund raiser is just one of the events at the library in March and early April.
It’s time to dig the quarters out of the couch and put them to good use at the Ida Long Goodman Memorial Library annual quarter bingo. The event is a fundraiser for Friends of the Library with proceeds going to the improvements for the library, said library Director Laura Davis.
Quarter bingo will start at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 8 in the Library community room. Each pot will start with a $20 minimum with half of the bingo card sales also going into the pot. The other half of the proceeds goes to Friends of the Library who will use the money for improvements to the library. Pots at last year’s event ran between $40 and $50.
Bingo cards are a quarter a piece for each game. Change will be available but participants are encouraged to bring quarters. A meal of hot dogs and chips will be provided at the end of the event, Davis said.
Friends of the Library are always looking for more members and will host a coffee and rolls appreciation and membership drive at the library starting at 8 a.m. on Fri- day, March 16. Annual memberships are $10 for individuals and $15 for families. Membership money goes to support library projects. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the food and consider becoming a member of Friends of the Library.
Other upcoming events include the second session of Essential Oils and Meditation led by Terri Koeslch. The event starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 29 at the library.
Plans are underway to have Marci Penner, head of the Kansas Sampler Festival, make a presentation at the library in early April. Penner and her father Mil Penner started the Kansas Sampler Festival back in 1990 as an event that showcased everything Kansas has to offer. The Kansas Sampler Festival came to an end in 2017 but was replaced by the Big Kansas Road Trip that will be held May 3-6 in Barber, Comanche and Kiowa Counties.
The Library will have regular hours during Spring Break the week of March 19-23. The Library will be closed on Good Friday, March 30.
