Born on March 23, 1927, she was a native Kansan who was raised on a farm near St. John, Ks. On May 3, 1946 she married Omar (Dean) Hathaway just after his discharge from Naval service in World War II. In 1948, Dean re-enlisted and the couple moved to Shreveport, Ls. They remained in the U.S. Army/Air Force until 1953 and subsequently relocated to Haysville, Ks until 1963. During this time, Clara pursued a career in accounting with the Federal Government and also worked for the IRS. In 1963, they moved to McCook, Ne. and six months later to Hudson Ks. Throughout their lifetime, (to and from Kansas) Dean's mom and dad (Elmer and Dora Hathaway) and two brothers families (Mervin and Vert, Daryl and Connie) often lived close by and Vert, Connie and Clara developed close relationships. In 1965 they relocated to Anchorage, Alaska and two years later to Bangkok, Thailand, where Clara was Chief Accountant — a supervisory position for the army. In 1969 they headed to Washington, D.C. Along their life journey, there were ports between Washington, D.C. and Florida prior to landing in Bell, Fl. In 1993 they moved to Ardmore, Al. near Dean's brother and then returned to Kansas in 2008. Roughly a year later they moved to Verona, Pa. to be near their daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughters. In 2014 Clara moved near her daughter in West Melbourne, Fl.
