The St. John-Hudson boys cross country team placed all seven runners in the top 10 and took their fifth straight CPL league championship.
The St. John Cross Country team competed in the Central Prairie League meet at the Ness City Golf Course on Thursday, October 11. It was a cold and cloudy day and the course included some hills and turns. Runners from seven of the league schools were represented.
The varsity boys’ team won their 5th straight league title by placing all seven runners in the top 10 A.J. Miller won the race with a time of 17:50.80. Mason Osborne came in second with a time of 18:14.40. Other Tiger runners were Wrangler Walker 4th place medal (18:29.00), Trey Fisher 6th place medal (18:57.50), Cashe McVey 7th place medal (19:06.10), Uriel Calleros 9th place medal (19:21.40) and Hunter Hanson 10th place medal (19:24.80).

“The boys competed hard. It was great to medal the whole team in the top 10. Times were a little slower than I want, but we had a hard week of practice. We will start to taper off and the boys should see their times fall with some fresher legs,” said Coach Joel Delp.
The varsity girls’ team finished 3rd in the league. Jackie Rios led the team with an 11th place finish and time of 24:16.70. Paige Doran placed 16th (25:05.90), Jaden Reed 20th (27:14.30) and Shayla Garcia 23rd (28:15.80).
Team Scores: Ellinwood 11, Macksville 29, St. John 55, Otis-Bison 68.
“I was really glad that the girls were able to run as a team this week. The girls ran hard. I thought they had their best race so far this year. Sterling times were faster but this was a much tougher course,” Delp said.
In the JV boys’ race, Dylan Reed led the way finishing in first place with a time of 19:47.50. Dalton Nemec came in second with a time of 19:57.00. Nick Huston finished with a 4th place medal and time of 21:42.30. Other Tiger runners were Ethan Huston 14th (26:12.20), Sead Pepic 15th (26:28.90), and Edson Gracia 16th (27:49.70). In the JV girls’ race, Jordon Willinger finished 6th with a time of 32:35.50.
The Tiger cross country team will compete in the 1A Regional at the Cessna Activity Center in Wichita on Saturday, October 20th. The girls team will run at 11:15 and the boys team will run at 11:50.
