Joy Dean Ochel of Hudson, Kansas passed away on October 19, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born on a farm near St. John on April 2, 1928 to Orlie and Mary Dixon Dykes.

Joy graduated from St. John High School in 1946 and attended the Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. She was employed by the Hudson School District for many years and worked at the Hudson State Bank for over 20 years. She married William (Bill) Ochel in 1951 and the couple were longtime residents of Hudson before moving to Leisure Homestead in Stafford in 2003. She belonged to Trinity Community Church in Hudson. Joy moved to Oklahoma in 2012 to be closer to her son. Joy was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals and desserts for her family and friends. She always had a batch of cookies in the freezer ready to give out for birthdays, get-togethers, or just because she thought someone needed a smile that day. Joy was a sweet and thoughtful woman who cared deeply about her friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and two sisters, Darlene Dykes and Lorene Gleason.

Joy is survived by her son, Rik Ochel and his wife, Monica, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Abby Bridges and her husband, Grant, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Tanner Ochel of Windermere, Florida; two great grandchildren, Eleanor and Dean Bridges; and a number of other loving relatives.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held November 3, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Community Church in Hudson. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery.
