Santa Claus and a lot of are residents are expected to attend Christmas Around the Square in St. John on Sunday, Nov. 25.

Santa Claus is coming to St. John along with a host of vendors, gift baskets and very unique Christmas trees.

It’s time to gather up the family and head to St. John for Christmas Around the Square. This community event was started in 2017 and is back with more activities for some family fun, said Jamie Getty, event organizer.

Christmas Around the Square will start at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25 at the square in downtown St. John. No specific ending time is set but activities will continue as long as people are present.

This is the second year for the event and some new activities have been added.

Vendors will be set up around the square and will have a variety of hand made items for sale including towels, pot holders, wooden signs and much more. Around 10 vendors should be on hand to sell their wares, Getty said.

Also new this year is a Christmas Joy Raffle. Several local businesses and citizens have donated items for gift baskets. Tickets are $1 apiece or six for $5 and no one needs to be present to win.

Getting the creative juices flowing this year is the Christmas tree decorating contest. Christmas trees were made out of wood pallets and people got on a list to stretch their imaginations and decorate these unique trees. Guests will get to vote for their favorite tree.

Visitors to this event will see a wide variety of decoration themes. The court- house office has decorated their tree to fit their office. The register of deeds has books on the tree and the treasurers office has added some license plates.

“We have all sorts of things,” Getty said.

Music will fill the square with Mac and Kristen Knight providing the Christmas caroling. Santa Claus will make an appearance to hear the children’s wish list. A special reading of the Christmas is also on the schedule. Some special food treats will be available including hot cocoa and cookies. For those wanting something more substantial, the fireman’s auxiliary will host a soup supper in the Shell building. Other activities will be held around the square.

In the event of inclement weather, alternate sites are being organized.

Christmas Around the Square was started to help bring the community together in St. John. The weather was nice last year and a lot of people came out to enjoy the event, Getty said.

This will be a time for family and friends to get together and have a good time.

“This will be time to come together at the holiday season,” Getty said.
