Two deer break in near One Main Financial

DODGE CITY — The Dodge City Police Department was dispatched to an unusual call Wednesday.

According to Dodge City Police Chief Drew Francis, about 7:15 a.m. Sept. 18, officers were dispatched to 2205 Central Ave. Suite C, the location of the old clinic next to One Main Financial, in reference to two deer crossing Central Avenue heading west.

“These same two deer crashed through the windows at this address and went inside the building,” Francis said. “A few minutes later one of the deer exited back through the window and the other stayed inside.”

As officers arrived at the scene, during an inspection of the building, one deer was found inside with injuries from the glass.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, Dodge City Animal Control and a veterinarian from Dodge City Veterinary Clinic were requested to the scene.

“The deer was tranquilized and checked by the vet,” Francis said. “Once the vet determined the deer was OK and injuries weren’t life-threatening, the deer was removed safely by Kansas Wildlife and Parks and DCPD officers.

“It was subsequently released back into the wild.”

Francis added that the second deer that made its way from the scene before the officers’ arrival was spotted in the area of 6th Avenue and Highway 50, where it was struck by a car and ran off.

“Officials were unable to locate that deer,” Francis said.
