HUDSON — Ross D. Ahnert, 86, died Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Kenwood Plaza, St. John. He was born July 22, 1933 on a farm near Hudson, Kansas. The son of Mary Schrader Ahnert and Louis Gottschalk Ahnert.

Ross graduated from Hudson High School in 1951 where he played football, basketball, tennis and baseball. Ross served in the Army from 1955-1957 and was stationed in Germany. After military service Ross farmed the Ahnert/Schrader homestead with his Dad until his Dad’s death in 1974. Ross faithfully farmed the family farm and saw it through several recessions. He is a trusted farmer, cattleman, and friend. Ross lived in the same Hudson farm house his entire life until he retired in 2014 when He moved to Kenwood. Ross was a member of Jolly Workers 4H Club, American Legion, Kansas Livestock Association, Peace Church, and Farm Bureau. In his adult years, Ross was an avid hunter, he bowled, and played bridge. In August he was awarded Century Farm Award from the Kansas Farm Bureau for his farm being in the family for 100 years (actually 136 years).

Ross was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother Donald, sister-in-law Mary Bell, and nephew Donald Joe. Survivors include nephews Robert (wife Gail) of Texas and Ron (wife Uana) of Arizona; and niece Dianna Ball (husband Roger) of Arizona.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at Minnis Chapel, Stafford. Private burial at Peace Church Cemetery, Hudson.  Memorials may be sent to Kenwood Plaza in care of the chapel.
