Preston firefighters made short work of a weed fire about two miles north of Natrona on April 1. Three fire units and several firefighters responded to a very small weed fire around an oil pumping unit in a field just south and west of the intersection of NE 70th Street and NE 40th Avenue.
Firefighters were called just after 7 p.m. and were on scene quickly. High wind was a concern but firefighters had the fire under control in about 20 minutes. Only a very small area of weeds were burned and there was no damage to property.
The fire started by the pumping unit but there was no obvious sign why the fire started.
“The cause of the fire was undetermined,” said Preston Fire Chief Greg Meireis.
No firefighters were injured in the fire.
Despite recent rains inthe area, fire danger remains high in Stafford, Pratt and Kiowa counties.
