Obituary: Don Slade
Don Elwin Slade died Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Arkansas.
He was born September 17, 1933 to Edward and Eleanor Slade in Stafford, Kansas.
Don grew up in Stafford, Kansas where he graduated from High School. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University and went on to serve as an officer in the U.S. Army.
Don was married to his wife, Lois Sarver Slade for 61 years. They raised their family in Pratt, Kansas. He farmed on the family homestead in Stafford County, Kansas. Don and his wife retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas 30 years ago. He was a charter member of Highland Christian Church, and was an active member of the Kansas Sunflower Club. He was a Commander of the American Legion 341 in Bella Vista.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; Edward and Eleanor, his brothers; Byron and Bernard Slade, and his sister; Phyllis Slade McClure.
He is survived by his wife; Lois, his son; Darryl Slade (Brenda) of Columbia, Missouri, his two daughters; Marilyn Slade Sambevski (Michael) of Shawnee, Kansas, and Donna Slade Gowdy (Lynn) of Bentonville, Arkansas, his sister; Barbara Slade Baar, six grandchildren; Ryan and Justin Slade, Alexander Sambevski, Stacey Chenoweth, Sarah Herford, and Stephanie Gowdy, and two great-grand children; Margaret Chenoweth and Henry Herford.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 4 th at Highland Christian Church, Bella Vista, Arkansas at 11am.
